Available Courses

  • Faculty / Staff Resources contains information for faculty and staff for the 2009-2010 school year.
  • USL Community Resources contains the school directory, forms, and other items for use within the University School community.
  • Humanities - Cycle 3 is an interdisciplinary course involving history, English, grammar, art, current events, and more. We will examine the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome (and others around the Mediterranean) and then shift to a study of Europe from the Renaissance to the present. These areas will be the starting point for the other topics we touch upon.
  • Writing is a strictly on-line course that all USL students take, and it is designed to increase each student's proficiency in crafting and revising responses to a variety of prompts. Students have weekly assignments, alternating between new topics and revision. Public Speaking is designed to help each student become more comfortable and effective at conveying his/her thoughts in a public manner. This skill is essential to becoming a good citizen in a democracy.
  • Intermediate School (Paeschke) is the on-line homepage for Humanities, Science, and Mandarin.
  • Intermediate School (Buchanan) is the on-line homepage for Math and Latin.
  • Spanish 1B begins with a review that refreshes the language skills that the students have already learned with plenty of reading and writing practice. Our guiding text, Capitulo Puente, links the two courses that comprise Spanish I together. As in 1A, 1B uses technological resources to promote learning and is a continuation of the vocabulary, grammar, speaking and writing of 1A.
  • Spanish 1A introduces students to the Spanish-speaking world with a balance of grammar and vocabulary in every lesson. There are reviews before major assessments. Students are expected to use the language in conversation and use technology to show their proficiency.
  • Leadership & Life Skills is a class for all students that integrates the lessons in the other disciplines together for the students. Guest speakers, student job shadow days, and field experiences (Learning Outside the Classroom) originate in L&L in collaboration with the teachers in the other disciplines, and students regularly create and share reflections about what they have learned.

Located in Mount Pleasant and serving the metro Charleston area, University School of the Lowcountry (USL) is an independent, non-sectarian, non-profit school for high-achieving students with tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status.
